The Grampian Flyers are holding open try-outs for the 20010/11 season. There will be both male and female try-outs, for both U16 and U18 squads. The player contribution for the season will be aprox £150 with £5 game fee to cover travel costs. This will provide players with training twice a week and games in the national league from September until March. The Grampian Flyers are the only national league club in the region and are the pinnacle of the player pathway in Grampian. To align with the launch of basketballscotland’s new website, Facebook and Twitter pages we are challenging all players, coaches, officials and enthusiasts to show where you are going on your summer holidays.
Competition, basketballscotland Summer Holidays Challenge
Description, Take a picture of yourself beside international landmarks in basketballscotland attire. Whether its a t-shirt, hoodie, training vest or whole tracksuit take a picture beside the landmarks, signs, with characters or anywhere you can think of. Email the photo to grampian@basketball-scotland.com and they will be posted on the basketballscotland Facebook page. The winning photo will be decided on by our pannel of judges, in three criteria.
- Pose, what pose are you holding in the photo? A simple smile or a star jump? points will be awarded for the most creative.
- Place, where in the world are you? Points will be awarded for photos beside famous landmarks or signs that describe where you are.
- People, who are in the photo with you? Are you with friends, family or somebody famous? Michael Jordan?!
Prize, the winning photo as chosen by the pannel judges will be posted on the basketballscotland website and the person who sends it in will recieve a basketballscotland goodie bag, T-shirt, waterbottle and free mini basketball.
Please note that you must send your name, age, and address in with your photograph to ensure that we can send your prize to the right place. All photos will be posted on the basketballscotland Facebook group, but only the winning photo will be posted on the basketballscotland website. basketballscotland reserves the right to use any photographs sent to them for publicity and advertisment. Any persons sending photographs to basketballscotland to enter this competition accepts these conditions.

This weekend saw the first U14 challenge, for teams across there country, in Glenrothes. Each region was represented at the event with 14 boys teams competing on the Saturday, and 8 girls teams competing on the Sunday. There was a great standard of play from all the players involved, coupled with some referee development and a great supportive atmosphere from all the spectators all added to a highly successful event. Throughout the tournament each team coach were asked to highlight players that demonstrated team spirit, defensive effort, developed individual offense and repect for all officials. The players that demonstrated these qualities were selected for the all tournament team. There was 10 selected for the boys and 10 for the girls, these are listed below;

basketballgrampian and Aberdeen City Active Schools have teamed up to create an extensive summer camp programme. With 5 weeks of activity available to players of all ages and abilities these camps have something for everyone. The camps are focused on individual player skill development through drills, technique and games.
The age groups are split with U14 (P5-S2) at 9am – 12am and U18 (S3-S6) at 1pm – 4pm, and there is no experience needed. Whether you play for Scotland or its the first time you wish to try basketball there is something for everyone.
