Getting Started Course in East Ayrshire

A Basketball Getting Started coaching course is to be held in East Ayrshire on Sunday 12th September 2010. The details are listed below and if you would like to apply please e-mail Adam Strain from East Ayrshire Sports Development.

Time : 10am – 4pm
Venue : James Hamilton Academy, kilmarnock
Cost : A = £15, B = £20, C = £25

A= Member of an East Ayrshire Sports Council Affiliated Club

B = Students or those in Full Time Education, those in receipt of Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Working Families Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Rebate, Disabled Persons Tax Credit

C = Members of other sports clubs, organisations or individuals

West Joint Coaching and Officiating Clinic

Register now for the The West Joint Coaching and Officiating Clinic. Its a great way to prepare for the upcoming season! Details are as follows:

Date: Sunday 5th September
Venue: Hyndland Secondary, Glasgow
Time: 10am – 3pm
Cost: £12 per head (light lunch included)

Coaching Clinic Topics:
- Motivating Players
- Offence: reading and reacting to team mates, players and the ball
- Rule Changes and Amendments (Joint session with the Officials)

Doug Reilly will be leading the Coaching Clinic. For the past 8 years Doug has been developing players within the City of Edinburgh Kings Cadet and Junior Mens programmes. From 2005 until 2009 he was the Scotland U16 Mens Head Coach with the team taking Gold medal at the 2008 FIBA Europe Division C Championship and Silver in 2006. He is currently the Scotland U18 Mens Head Coach and has just returned from the FIBA Europe Division B Championships.

Officiating Clinic Topics:
- Mechanics
- Managing People
- Rule Changes and Amendments (Joint session with the Coaches)

The officiating workshops will be led by members of the Officials Commission including Ian Watt.

Registration Deadline for Upcoming UKCC Courses Extended

The registration deadline for the following courses has been extended until the end of the Week (6th August). Sign up now to secure your place!

UKCC Level 1 Course:

(This is the basic level of coaching qualification for those who wish to commit to coaching basketball. This course provides each candidate with the basic knowledge of basketball and coaching skills and will enable the holder to assist a fully qualified Level 2 Coach. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age on day 1 of the course)

27 Aug, 3 Sept, 1 Oct & 8 Oct (2pm – 6pm): Craigroyston School, Edinburgh stuartcraig@edinburghleisure.co.uk

UKCC Level 2 Coaching Course:

(This level of coaching qualification provides a prospective coach with a general overview of all aspects of basketball and sports coaching and enables the holder the ability to work independently to plan, deliver and review basketball coaching sessions without supervision. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age on day 1 of the course)

4/5 Sept, 8/9/15 Jan (9am – 5pm):  Central Location TBC coaching@basketball-scotland.com

The 4/5 Sept & 8/9 Jan are ringfenced education weekends so no National League Games, TDP sessions or National Squad sessions will be scheduled on those weekends. This is a great course for coaches who are committed to National League teams throughout the season. Sign up now to secure your place!

UKCC Level 2 Bridging Course

This course is for coaches who qualified as Level 2 coaches through basketballscotland before the introduction of the UKCC programme and are now looking to qualify as UKCC Level 2 coaches.

8/15 Sept & 3rd Nov (6pm – 9pm): Glasgow Venue (TBC) coaching@basketball-scotland.com

This is the only scheduled bridging course scheduled for next season so sign up now to secure your place!

Course Costs:

Level 1: £170 (scholarships available to reduce the cost of the course to £60)

Level 2: £350 (scholarships available to reduce the cost of the course to £95)

Level 2 Bridging Course: £100 (Scholarships available to reduce the cost of the course to £50)
