Coaches Required For Regional TDP Squads

(Appointment Period: 1-2 Years)

basketballscotland is seeking to appoint Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches to the Talent Development Programme (TDP). This programme is designed to increase the standard of players and coaches just below the national league and Scotland National Squad level.

The Talent Development Programme is the first step on Scotland’s High Performance pathway and the key development experience for aspiring National Squad coaches and players.

This is an exciting opportunity for coaches to be a part of programme that will significantly impact on the development of young players.

Squads operate across Scotland in Grampian, Highland, West, Tayside & Fife and East & Central.

Coaches will be required to:

  • Commit to their continued development
  • Work with fellow coaches to plan, deliver and review each session
  • Attend coaching workshops and coach at TDP national camps
  • Work towards achieving the relevant UKCC coaching qualification
  • Coach the regional day-camps
  • Help the players set and monitor personal goals
  • Pass a Disclosure Scotland check

Coaches will receive:

  • Expenses payment (Amount to be set)
  • Resource pack detailing every key point of emphasis for each session
  • Season content plan
  • basketballscotland coaching workshops and development opportunities
  • Upfront UKCC Scholarships

The following attributes are essential for the posts:

  • Commitment to basketballscotland’s dual vision of Scotland team success and Scottish players progressing to Great Britain selection
  • Commitment to ensuring that the long term potential of every player is maximised
  • A coaching philosophy that gives an appropriate balance between player development, winning and retention of players.
  • Depicts professional behaviour and upholds a positive image that enhances the objectives of basketballscotland
  • Self-awareness; a willingness to be challenged; and acceptance of input and direction from fellow coaches, Great Britain coaches and basketballscotland staff
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of basketball relevant to this stage of development
  • National governing body qualification relevant to this position (Head Coach: Level 2, Assistant Coach: level 1) or proven equivalent experience
  • Commitment to undertake the scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate prior to the first date of the TDP programme (equivalent child protection training will be considered)

Venue : James Hamilton Academy, kilmarnock
Cost : A = £15, B = £20, C = £25

A= Member of an East Ayrshire Sports Council Affiliated Club

B = Students or those in Full Time Education, those in receipt of Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Working Families Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Rebate, Disabled Persons Tax Credit

C = Members of other sports clubs, organisations or individuals

East of Scotland Coaching Conference – Coaching Counts

The East of Scotland Coaching Conference which features basketball is coming in November. Coaching Counts has been a permanent fixture in the coaching calendar for almost 10 years and this year’s conference is looking to be better than ever. The Conference will be on Sunday 21st November 2010 at Dalkeith Sports Campus… in Midlothian. Further details will follow in the coming weeks.

Edinburghs Sports Awards 2010

 

Coaching Edinburgh, ClubSportEdinburgh, Edinburgh Leisure, Activcity and City of Edinburgh Council are delighted to invite nominations from all Edinburgh Sports Clubs and organisations for the Edinburgh Sports Awards 2010 that recognise excellence, achievement and development by Edinburgh sports people and organisations over the last year or so.

There are three awards that will focus on individuals and clubs who engage with local communities to develop sport and encourage physical activity within the following categories:

Edinburgh Club of Year

First Prize £500, Short listed clubs: £250 each

Edinburgh Coach of the Year:

First Prize: £350 Short listed coaches: £150 each

Edinburgh Volunteer of the Year:

First Prize: £350, Short listed volunteers: £150 each

The full criteria and guidelines for nomination are available from grahammoodie@edinburghleisure.co.uk . Nominations should be submitted no later than 17th September 2010.

A Selection Panel will then choose three nominations from each category who will be invited to the Commonwealth Games Civic Reception on Thursday 28th October where the final winners will be announced.

This is the first year of the awards and we are keen to get nominations from the basketball community. If you know of someone or a club which is doing some great work please nominate them now!
