Scotland Player Development Sessions a great success
The first ever Player Development Session took place last Saturday 4th May.
The Player Development Sessions are special National Team practice sessions with the main objective of improving the technical ability of our National Team players.
Our U16, U18 and Senior point guards and centres gathered together for specialist coaching led by Iain McLean (Scotland Senior Men Head Coach) , Adrian Flynn (Scotland U18 Women Head Coach) , Vladan Dragosavac (GB Performance Pathway Manager) and Zoran Visic (former UMMC Ekaterinburg Head Coach )
PDS is a new initiative focused on the development of the players by giving them the option of training train side by side and develop their technical skills to an international standard. The programme also acts as a conduit for better communication between professionals, coaches and players .
The Players are grouped for specialist coaching as:
· Specialist Point Guards
· General Perimeter players
· Big or Post players
The players involved in this first session can be found in the link below.
Luis Romero, Player Development Manager at basketballscotland comments : “ The day was a huge success. Players and coaches thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, most of them felt they gained a lot from it and also really enjoyed having the opportunity to work with the older players. Senior men and women gave the younger ones lots of encouragement and it has made them all even more determined to try their best to keep being selected for Scotland through all the age groups.
I certainly think having the age groups together at these sessions will certainly help achieve the ethos of ‘Scotland as 1’.I really hope we will expand our PDS with further opportunities like this in the future as it was a very positive experience.”
