Latest News: Future Starz is here.
Last weekend we saw the launch of the Future Starz Programme 2012-13 where the seven Regional Centres opened their doors to the country’s young hopefuls.
The Programme kicked off on Thursday evening in Aberdeen and was followed with trials in Edinburgh, Paisley, Stirling, Dundee and Inverness on Friday and Sunday. Over the course of the weekend 25 coaches put over 400 budding stars through their paces.
The trials started with some speed and agility work where the coaches were able to analyse the physical attributes of the would-be ‘future starz’. Following this there was the opportunity for the under 14 players to demonstrate their individual skills with some passing, shooting and dribbling drills. To finish off, the youngsters had the opportunity to play some small sided games and some 5 v 5 where they could show how they worked in teams and moved on court.
With International coaches and players returning from last season in every region, this year’s Future Starz Programme has already proved to be a huge success. The feedback from the regional centres has suggested that there are many more promising young players in our midst.
The selection process will continue with 1 further trial before the training officially commences in mid-October. The programme will culminate with a National Camp where all players will be eligible for Scotland selection. We wish all of our future starz the very best of luck!
