National League & Cup Week 4 Preview

This week see the Men take a break from League duty to concentrate on the Scottish Cup. This a number of the top teams from season 2011-12  action as the Last 16 take place around the country.

Last Year’s U18 Men’s Cup Winners St Mirren, travel to Tayside who last year finished runners-up to Saints in the league. With the winner meeting either Troon or Glasgow Rens in the Quarter finals both of these “All Division 1” ties promise to bring some excitement tot he weekend.

In the U16’s Cup holders City of Edinburgh drew division 2 side Grampian Flyers and they will be looking for a win and maybe the chance at another go at Dunfermline Reign, winner of the league tie two weeks ago, in the Quarter finals if Reign can progress past Stirling Knights.

In the Senior Competition, The tie to watch is the St Mirren v Kings which takes place on Thursday night at Portobello. Last year’s Cup winner Saints will be looking to keep themselves in the hunt for the Cup they lifted last season, while Kings will be looking for a repeat of the league game which took place at the new Lagoon Arena last Friday night and take one step closer to regaining the Cup which they won in 2011. Boroughmuir take on Stirling Knights on Saturday at the Crag. Both teams looking to book a place against either Glasgow Rocks or Dunfermline Reign in the only other All National League draw in the round.

Meanwhile in the women’s Cup, St Mirren take a trip North to take on Portlethen with the winner meeting either Polonia Phoenix or Aberdeen University who don’t play until the 11th November.

In the league the two new comers meet with Tayside Musketeers seniors hosting Pentland Star and the under 16’s host the other league new comer Highland Bears on Sunday in Arbroath, while Kool Kats play host to Glasgow Rocks and St Mirren host Polonia at under 18 and 16 level.

All in all another exciting weekend of basketball to look forward to.
