Lanarkshires Coaching Conference: Coach in Action – Next Generation

North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, North Lanarkshire Leisure Trust and sportscotland are committed to developing our partnership in all things coaching.

Alongside other key partners, we are delighted to host a one day coaching conference – ‘Next Generation’ on Sunday 4th November at Calderglen High School, Community Sport Hub in East Kilbride.

The basketball workshop will take in two elements: ‘No excuse – use your training time’ and ‘Maximum relative intensity’. The first focusing on positive coaching, use of time and fundamentals using 1v1. The second looking at effective activities at full speed and intensity.

The basketball sessions will be presented by Luis Romero. Luis has a vast amount of basketball experience. He has coaches Spanish division 1 basketball, from cadette to senior women’s teams, and is the current Head Coach of the U16 Women Scottish National Team. He holds a Level 4 coaching certificate with the Spanish Basketball Federation. Luis has recently taken up the post of Pathways Manager after having been the East/Central Regional Development Officer for the past few years.

‘Next Generation’ encapsulates the priorities for coaching shared by the partner organisations.  It also demonstrates a new way of planning opportunities across the whole of Lanarkshire to support, not just existing coaches, but also new coaches who want to gain insight into their particular sport or area of interest.  These coaches may be club members, sports development or active schools volunteers, parents, senior pupils or students.

The ‘Next Generation’ conference aims to attract development level, new or young coaches to coaching and deployment opportunities within local clubs or sports development and active schools programmes across Lanarkshire.

Expert tutors and coaches from within UK and Scottish sport will deliver practical sessions tailored to meet the needs of the coaches attending.

Setting the theme at this year’s conference will be keynote speaker: Hazel Williamson, Scotland Development Manager for the Youth Sport Trust. The Youth Sport Trust is a UK wide independent charity devoted to changing young people’s lives through sport.
