basketballscotland is hosting a Wheelchair Basketball Leaders Coaching Course in conjunction with the British Wheelchair Basketball.
Date: Friday 24th August
Time: 10am – 4pm
Venue: The Peak, Stirling
- £50 per head
- £35 per head for those attending the wheelchair course and the National Coaching Clinic
This course is suitable for teachers; physiotherapists; sport & community development officers; wheelchair basketball players; coaches; youth club leaders; and parents.
It is advised that candidates are 16+ years, however it is also appropriate for candidates under the age of 16 who are taking the award to support additional generic sports leadership qualifications, or GCSE PE.
The course lasts 6 hours, and is predominantly practical.
Candidates will gain an understanding of how to safely and knowledgeably introduce the basic fundamental skills of wheelchair basketball to young and novice players.
Skills covered are: chair movement; dribbling; passing & receiving; and shooting, which are all part of the ‘FUNdamental Skills Awards’ scheme for Wheelchair Basketball, (included in the resource pack).
Candidates will then be able to progress these skills into small sided games and gain an understanding of the rules of ‘Inclusive Zone Basketball’, and how to set up Inclusive Zone basketball festivals.
All candidates receive the Leaders Education Pack & resource cards, and Wheelchair Basketball Leaders Award certificate.
