Following The Olympics: GB Men 90 V 58 China
In yesterday’s match against China, GB Men played a great game to record their first Olympic victory. GB defeated China 90 – 58 in their final match of the preliminary round. Unfortunately GB didn’t qualify for the quarterfinals but they played a good game to end their journey with.
“This was an amazing game, an amazing feeling to get this win in-front of very passionate fans who have stood by us throughout,” said GB forward Joel Freeland. “China were tough and very quick so we had to be ready for that and we concentrated on our strengths and played to that really.”
China started the game with a 7 – 0 lead. GB came back quickly to tie the score. Great Britain then picked up momentum and went on a 20 – 5 run, ending the first quarter leading 27 – 15.
In the second quarter, GB had starters in foul trouble but they rebounded and increased their lead over China with a score of 46 – 31.
Some baskets from Joel Freeland and Drew Sullivan and a strong defensive, GB eliminated any chances that China had of winning the match.
Going into the fourth quarter with a 72 – 48 lead, both teams had trouble with their offense for a short amount of time. Thanks to Eric Boateng and Kyle Johnson, GB was able to secure their first win of the tournament.
Scotland’s Kieron Achara led the game shooting 16 points. Nate Reinking also played well with 12 points. Robert Archibald ended his career on a high note, scoring 8 points and had 9 rebounds.
