U16 Women Final Squad Selected

Saturday 19th November saw in the last day of trials for the U16 Women National Team and the first step towards Gibraltar 2012.

The 20 best U16 players gathered at Armadale Acadmey (West Lothian) in a bid to become one of top 12 who will represent Scotland this summer at the FIBA European Championships.

Of this top 20 -seventeen had already represented their country at U13, U14 or U15 level making the selection process an extremely difficult one for the cadette coaching team.  Following the 3 hour session and after much discussion, debate (and the odd squabble) the coaching staff came to a final decision.

This year’s U16 Scotland Women’s Squad is as follows:

Shannon Flippard (Falkirk Fury), Sarah Hunter (St.Mirren), Cara Black (Tayside Musketeers), Taylor McKeown (Glasgow Rocks), Michelle Bradley (Glasgow Rocks), Mirren Summers (Polonia Phoenix), Erin Campbell (St.Mirren), Abbie Wheeler (Kool Kats), Keri Jackson (Polonia Phoenix), Katie Fergus (St. Mirren), Shannon Purves (Kool Kats) and Sam Butler (Glasgow Rocks).

In addition to the squad, two reserve players have also been selected:

Leah Stewart (West Lothian Wolves) and Julie O’Donnell (Tayside Musketeers)

The Scotland U16 National Team will begin their preparation towards European Championships on December 11th 2011 and will have their last training session on July 15th 2012.

From July 17th – 22nd, the team will compete in Gibraltar at the 2012 U16 FIBA European Championships (Division C).

Winner of two of the past six competitions, Scotland U16 hope to play at a high level and will try to prove themselves in the first round where theywill take on strong opposition.
