2012 Mid-Season basketballscotland Joint Referees / Coaches Seminar

 The basketballscotland Officials Commission and Coach Education & Development Manager are pleased to extend an invitation to all basketball referees and coaches to the 2012 mid-season basketballscotland seminar.

FIBA Europe is supporting this event and as such, Johnny Jacobs, the Belgian National Referee Instructor, will attend and help deliver at the seminar.

The seminar is being hosted on Sunday 29th January 2012 at

Loch Leven Community Campus (incorporating new Kinross High School)

Seminar is for coaches as well as referees.

Referees’ Registration is from 09:15 onwards, with coaches registration open from 10:30. The joint element of the seminar starts at 11:00.

The cost of the seminar is £20.00 per person and includes seminar materials, lunch and a FIBA 2012 Official Rule Book (including referee mechanics) for all attendees.

A discount of £5.00 per person is available to all basketballscotland registered coaches and referees who formally sign up and pay by Monday 16th January 2012.

Application Process

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer electronic payment for this event through the  self service section of our website at this time.

Any coach or referee wishing to attend this seminar should therefore follow the following application process.

1) Email officials@basketball-scotland.com with their name, region/club/school, basketballscotland membership number (if applicable) and whether they are attending as a referee or coach (or both).

2) Confirm whether they wish to pay cash on the day* or send in a cheque (payable to basketballscotland) prior to the event.

3) Confirm any special dietary requirements for the lunch (provided) on the day.

4) If attending as a referee, confirm that you are taking the fitness test and rules test or provide a valid reason in advance why you are not.

* Attendees whose emails are received prior to 5:00pm on Monday 16th January will be eligble for the £15.00 rate. Anyone not registered prior to 16th January 2012 or who turns up on the day will be charged £20.00.

** Anyone who registers and subsequently does not attend or give 3 days notice they are no longer attending is subject to the full charge of £20.00.

09:15 – 09:30                      Referee Registration + Warm Up / Stretching

Referees discuss Game Management during a time out.

09:30 – 09:50                      Referee specific - fitness assessments (20 metre bleep test)

09:50 – 10:00                     Referee specific - cool down and shower.

10:00 – 10:55                      Referee specific content - on the floor session on mechanics and criteria with FIBA Europe Referee Instructor Johnny Jacobs (Belgium).

Joint Referees and Coaches Seminar

10:30 – 10:55                      Coaches Registration

11:00 – 11:50                      On floor presentation – basketball foul and violation criteria with FIBA Europe Referee Instructors, followed by Qs and As.

12:00 – 13:00                      Key Note Speaker – Lecture Theatre – Referee and Coach Relationships presentation – Rules, Behaviour & Managing the Game

13:00 – 13:45                      Lunch (provided) – networking opportunity for referees and coaches

13:45 – 14:00                      basketballscotland National League Video Clips – Examples of Criteria

14:00 – 14:30                      basketballscotland – coaches and referees open discussion forum

14:30                                       Optional – Coaches Can Depart if they so choose (or stay for the rules session and rules test).

15:00 -   15:45                     Rules Test – Exam conditions (individual marks will be advised by email)

The seminar programme and content has been designed so it is beneficial for all levels of basketball referees and coaches active in Scotland, not just those in the National League. We welcome coaches and referees from Schools, Local and Regional basketball as well.

Attendance at this seminar, including participation in the fitness test and rules test is mandatory for any referee who is active in the National Leagues and Cups who wishes to be considered for 2012 Cup Final and Play Off referee appointments.
