The University of Strathclyde Schools Basketball Invitational

The University of Strathclyde Student Association and basketballscotland came together on Thursday 27th of October to hold a great tournament to encourage Basketball in local schools. The tournament was called ‘Strathclyde University schools basketball invitational’ which showcased the talent of over 50 pupils from all different schools competing for top spot.

The day was great success, with all of the competing pupils having a great time and making new friends. Schools from all different backgrounds competed in order to find one winner. The event also had the aim of showing secondary school pupils that they can attend University in the future.

Referees on the day were from the University men’s basketball club who acted as role models to the school pupils, who were all impressed to learn that Wednesday afternoons are free of classes so students can represent there basketball team at sport.

“Seeing basketball bringing together so many school pupils from across the city was heartening. The pupils really enjoyed there day and the teachers and volunteers were equally as positive about the event”. Sarah McKee (USSA Community Engagement Coordinator)

“The partnership established between basketballscotland and ourselves has proven fruitful so far and we look forward to our future college’s tournament in the near future as we continue to engage with the local community”. Iain M. Stewart (University of Strathclyde Sports Union Development Coordinator)
