Edinburgh Kings Take on The Glasgow Rocks This Weekend!

Edinburgh Kings Take on The Glasgow Rocks This Weekend!

All Scottish Derby

The Glasgow Rocks will host the Edinburgh Kings, at the Kelvin Hall ISA, for the first round of the BBL Cup on Sunday 30th October.

Following the unfortunate demise of the Essex Pirates 2 weeks prior to the season starting, the BBL extended a formal invitation to the Edinburgh Kings to come and compete in the first round of the BBL CUP. This gives Scottish basketball fans the perfect opportunity to see the two best teams in the country compete in this derby match between the two cities.

Rocks coach Sterling Davis looks ahead to Sunday’s clash: “Edinburgh will be a well-disciplined team. I’m not too sure about personnel in the team – but they are very good at running a system. They have an impressive and very successful record in the National League and are definitely a team that needs to be respected.”

The Kings are currently at the top of the Scottish National League table, having won their first 5 league games this season. The Kings are without doubt the best Scottish National League team, winning eight of the last nine League Championships!

Kings Head Coach Doug Reilly is optimistic about Sunday’s game, “We are delighted to have been given this opportunity to play in the BBL Cup. The players and coaching staff are eagerly looking forward to pitting ourselves against the Glasgow Rocks, in a game that will be an excellent test of our abilities.”

With the game also falling on Halloween the Rocks have laid on extra fun and games for the whole family! Anyone coming dressed up to Sunday’s game will receive a goody bag – some randomly filled with Rocks gear! There will also be a fancy dress competition, open to all ages, with the winner walking away with a signed Rocks shirt and VIP tickets! The Rocks will also be holding a raffle to win a jersey signed by both teams to commemorate the Scottish derby clash.

The two sides previously met in 2006 during the pool stages of the BBL Trophy – with the Rocks winning 103-59. Edinburgh has vowed it will be a much closer game this time around!
