John Glen – A Tall Story

John Glen is a former FIBA International Referee and Commissioner, a basketballscotland Honorary Vice President and at the grand age of 79, still a regular attendee at basketballscotland Cup Finals.

Attending this year’s 2011 Finals at the Pleasance, John shared with people his memories of a basketball trip to Taiwan in 1983 where he was official FIBA Commissioner.

There, he encountered the tallest player in all his year’s involvement in the sport, a 7′ 5″ Japanese player. Unfortunately, the players name is unknown, nor his career, but it does go to show that basketball can take you to some great places in the world and you can meet some fantastic and larger than life people.
