Senergy to Support Primary School Basketball
basketballscotland is pleased to announce a partnership with Senergy, a global energy services company head quartered in Scotland, aimed at getting more primary school children dribbling a basketball!
The partnership will allow basketballscotland to establish the “Bounce into Basketball” initiative, which is designed to introduce children to a lifelong participation in basketball.
This new initiative, which is currently being piloted, is also supported by the sportscotland sportsmatch scheme.
The initiative is intended to support basketball clubs by providing them with resources to help them to create links with the primary schools in their area, and to make it easier for schools and clubs to implement basketball coaching sessions in their community.
The 2010-11 school year will serve as the development and pilot period for the programme. Bounce will be established in targeted clusters and clubs in Grampian and Edinburgh, mirroring the office locations of Senergy and enabling them to maximise the impact of their support in the local community.
During this pilot year the content and resources for the programme will be created and tested with the intention of making it available throughout the country for the 2011-12 school year.
The ‘Bounce’ programme will cater mostly to extra-curricular activity and compliment the curriculum-based Teacher In-service programme already offered by basketballscotland.
The Bounce resources will be taken ‘off the shelf’ by adults with varying basketball experience and implemented in primary schools and clubs with additional support available from basketballscotland coach and teacher development programmes.
Aligned with sportscotland’s Coaching Fundamentals resource, the Bounce content will help build movement skills, basketball skills and tactical understanding through a games-based approach to coaching.
