Kings & Fury host NCAA Team this weekend

This weekend sees City of Edinburgh Kings and Clark Eriksson Fury play host to Franklin and Marshall College from the USA.
Franklin and Marshall under coach Glenn Robinson went to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2008-09 and Centennial Conference Champions and Elite Eight last season. They finished last season with a 26-5 record and should prove a tough pre-season test from last year’s Scottish Legaue Winners (Kings) and Cup Winners (Fury)

Coaches Costello and Bunyan may meet their match this weekend, in Franklin and Marshall Coach, Glenn Robinson who became the all-time wins leader in Division III history by recording his 667th victory on February 14, 2004 at home versus Muhlenberg College. Robinson is fifth among all active NCAA coaches in victories and has already surpassed legendary Arizona coach Lute Olson (780) for 15th on the all-time NCAA wins list. Historically, Robinson guided the Diplomats to the Division III Final Four in 1979, 1991, 1996, 2000 and 2009 and was named the Basketball Times Division III “Coach of the Year” in 1991. He has earned conference and NABC “Coach of the Year” honors 12 times, including the 2004 award for guiding the Diplomats to a 26-4 record, the Centennial Conference title and an NCAA Elite Eight berth.

Games will take place at Portobello on Saturday and Mariner on Sunday with the both Scottish sides looking to prepare for the new season, which will see the Scottish Men’s League increase to 10 teams.

New teams Stirling Knights, Glasgow Rocks, 2010 Chairman’s Cup Winners Glasgow University and a returning Dunfermline Reign who last competed in the league in 2006 will all join Kings and Fury along with East Lothian Peregrines, St Mirren Reid Kerr College, Glasgow Storm and Troon Tornadoes for the 2010-11 season which starts on September 17/18/19th.
